Integrin αIIbβ3 is critically required for hemostasis and thrombosis; however, its role in thrombo-inflammation is not well defined. Johnson, M.Sc., presents a study on a novel pathway of αIIbβ3 regulation, where αIIbβ3, along with its associated tetraspanin CD9, segregates from the platelet body. This inflammation-triggered mechanism of αIIbβ3 regulation, which facilitates the recruitment of neutrophils and fuels thrombo-inflammation, will be discussed.
