ISTH honors early career researchers with Fundamental Research Career Development Awards
The recipients of the ISTH Fundamental Research Career Development Awards were announced at the Plenary Session on Monday, June 23, at the ISTH 2025 Congress.
The awards are given to early career investigators who have demonstrated excellence in research. They aim to strengthen fundamental research by supporting innovative ideas of the next generation of scientists in the field by recognizing a high potential to develop independent research careers, and by fostering active commitment of early career investigators to the ISTH.
The 2025 recipients of the Fundamental Research Career Development Awards are as follows:
Xu Han, Ph.D. (United States)
- Category: Fundamental Mechanisms of Hemostasis
- Institution: Case Western Reserve University
- Project title: “Elucidate the conformation of activated integrin αIIbβ3 from native platelet membranes”
Harriet Allan, Ph.D. (United Kingdom)
- Category: Fundamental Mechanisms of Hemostasis
- Institution: Queen Mary University of London
- Project title: “Exploring mitochondrial dynamics and trafficking during megakaryopoiesis and platelet ageing”
Aisling Rehill, Ph.D. (Ireland)
- Category: Fundamental Mechanisms of Thrombosis
- Institution: Royal College of Surgeons Ireland
- Project title: “Western-diet can also induce trained hypercoagulability in myeloid cells through priming agents such as oxLDL, contributing to a prothrombotic environment by enhancing TF and PAI-1 production”
The award winners each receive an award of up to $50,000 USD for research in their respective category. Funds are used by applicants to support research, training and/or collaborations.
