Critical role of fibrinolysis in hematopoietic recovery after myelosuppression

Fibrin accumulation in the bone marrow niche following chemotherapy may impair hematopoietic regeneration. In this presentation, Lakmali M. Silva investigates the role of fibrinolysis in recovery after 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-induced myelosuppression. Both genetic and pharmacological depletion of fibrin were found to restore hematopoietic regeneration and reduce bone marrow cell death. These findings suggest that enhancing fibrinolysis or depleting fibrin could accelerate recovery after myelosuppressive chemotherapy.
